My friend is doing okay. I’ve stayed away from pushing him into entering a drug detox treatment facility. Although I think it is best for him, and I’ve shared this nugget of knowledge with him as well, it is truly up to him to decide if a drug detox is something he can do right now.
One of the most humbling experiences I have in sobriety is that I don’t know everything. Yes, that’s right, I don’t. I know what has worked for me in the past and I know what works for me now. I share these experiences when I can, but I’ve been around long enough to know that these are my experiences and I had to find my way. I had to find what felt comfortable for me. Just as my friend needs to find his way. Although I’d love to hold his hand and take him through it, I know if I do that it won’t be his experience it will be mine.
He sent a text the other day to let me know he was going to church regularly and that he is still sober. I think that’s great.
