American On Purpose: The Improbable Adventures of an Unlikely Patriot

It seems Craig Ferguson keeps popping up in my life as of late! And I’m not fighting it one bit. Why would I? I like is his sharp, dry wit, that teams with Scottish chutzpah. He knows how to hold back and not go for the easy joke. There’s a class that long term sobriety can bring, and I believe he has it within his gruff exterior.

Yesterday’s post, Craig Ferguson Video, was a blog post I wrote about five months ago. There are times when I write a post and set it aside, just waiting for the right time to post it. Well, a sober friend of mine, someone I know who’d been addicted to opioids and had to have a Suboxone detox a year prior, bought me his book, American on Purpose: The Improbable Adventures of an Unlikely Patriot. My friend bought it for me on HIS one year anniversary as a thank you gift for helping him and being in his life.

I finished  the book I was reading, and then picked up American on Purpose. I wondered if Ferguson would cover a lot of his using and recovery story. Normally I am not a biography reader, so I was hesitant. So far so good though, I am really enjoying it. What I like best at this point is that Ferguson acts like he is going to go in one direction, and does a complete 180. As a sober person he shows courage by not abusing the vulnerable, but by finding a commonality that can bind them.

In the next week I should be done with the book and will give it a review here.
