Alcohol Detox – Alcoholism is a Chronic Disease

Like many other chronic diseases, Alcoholism can have life-threatening consequences if left untreated. With many alcoholics, it’s mostly a matter of coming to terms with their addiction, and then getting the help they need at an alcohol detox. There are many effective alcohol detox programs, and Pat Moore Foundation has one of the best alcohol detox centers around.

An alcohol detox is the first step in the management of alcoholism, and we at Pat Moore Foundation believe the best, most comfortable and secure way is through a medically supervised period of withdrawal from alcohol. It’s during this period our clients are closely monitored to ensure their safety and that the medications administered are helping to alleviate the symptoms of withdrawal.

The symptoms of alcohol withdrawal can be serious and in some cases even life-threatening, so a medically-managed alcohol detox is often necessary.

The symptoms can include:

  1. tremors
  2. anxiety
  3. sweats
  4. paranoia
  5. hallucinations
  6. nausea
  7. vomiting
  8. agitation
  9. convulsions, and
  10. seizures

It’s important to note that not all people with alcohol addiction will have each one of these symptoms while going through an alcohol detox. The level of each might be anywhere from mild to severe, and typically alcohol withdrawal will summon a painful combination of many. This pain is the reason many alcoholics relapse. Simply, the pain is unbearable.

Our alcohol detox may last a few days to more than a week, is not treatment but it is an important and necessary preparation for our clients who would like to enter our treatment program. In fact, we at Pat Moore Foundation highly recommend extended care treatment right here on our own campus. If you feel you are ready to make a change in your life, please call us at 888-426-6086
