Drug Treatment Center | No Munchies Marijuana

With four million people each identifying as being addicted to marijuana, a drug treatment center can be called on to take action. Although there isn’t a medication that exist to treat marijuana addiction within a drug treatment center, there are a number of behavioral therapies that have shown success.

Those therapies are: motivational incentives, rewarding for abstinence; motivational enhancement, helping people increase their personal motivation to quit; and cognitive behavioral therapy, teaching new coping strategies.

A medication, rimonabant, which has not been approved by the FDA, is used in Europe for treating obesity. The cannabinoid antagonist blocks the subjective effects in marijuana. In other words, no munchies. That’s probably why it is used to treat obesity. The problem with this medication is that it has a potential for depression and anxiety. Research remains ongoing.
