The Perfect Storm | St. Patrick's Day!
Tomorrow is Saint Patrick's Day.
Have you ever wondered why people drink so much on St. Patrick's Day? Well, at least it seems that way. For those of us who have gone through an alcohol drug treatment program, we most likely drank a lot on this holiday of holidays, but then again, any excuse would do!
There are a few 'believed' reasons why people feel the need, urge, desire to drink on this sainted day.
- Saint Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland,
- March 17th comes along at the end of a long cold winter,
- Lent is just ending, and
- A large percentage of Catholics are Irish.
If you ask me, it's like a 'perfect storm.'
A small part of me is Irish, but a big part of me is a drunk. Well, a drunk in recovery. I grew up in Boston, where we have a huge populace of Irish. So, this time of the year drinking can be construed as a way of identifying with the Irish.
People hoist a few and kiss the blarney stone, which means they drink and talk a lot of nonsense!
