Five Questions to ask if a Rehab Treatment Center is Right for You

With the statistics pointing to an increase in Post-traumatic stress disorder and alcohol and drug addiction both being on the rise, rehab treatment centers have become a growing source for solutions.
Of course this is not to say that everyone with a post-traumatic stress disorder has a problem with drinking or drugs, it’s just that having post-traumatic stress disorder tends to make a person more susceptible to the development of a drug and alcohol problem.
In many cases the person using is unaware of any problem occurring at all, especially if a problem never seemed to exist before the post traumatic stress event. The process can be slow at first. An occasional nightly drink to take the edge off having to deal with remembering the horrific event, or it may just be part of some other type of event, like sports, nightclubbing or something else like that. Eventually the alcohol or drugs become more important than the actual activity itself. A person can find himself using the activity as a means to get ‘high.’
If identified early enough, an outpatient recovery treatment center can help diagnosis the problem and help the person cope properly. Sometimes that doesn’t occur quickly though because some are not able to see the change in their behaviors and how they use drugs and alcohol. A good way to identify behavior changes are to ask five main questions:
          • Has my drinking or drug use made me more aggressive and mean?
          • Has my drinking or drug use interfered with obligations like work and taking care of the family?
          • Has my drinking or drug use placed me in danger like driving a car or operating machinery?
          • Has my drinking or drug use resulted in troubles with the law?
          • Has my drinking or drug use negatively affected my work performance?
If you’ve found yourself answering yes to any of these questions, or even hesitating with a no or yes answer, you might have a problem. Discuss this list with your doctor, counselor, other medical professional, or even a family member. Getting help now through a rehab treatment center can help stop your downward spiral.
