Drug Detox | Medical Marijuana as a Bad Candidate
Working in a drug detox I see a lot of people addicted to marijuana, and as a recovering addict I also know this drug has some strong addictive qualities. When I entered a drug detox years ago, I didn't, and still don't, classify marijuana as my drug of choice. My focus was elsewhere.
There's a lot of news out there regarding the use of marijuana for medicinal purposes. I am not a chemist and therefore I have not scientifically studied all the properties, components, and chemicals associated with this plant. There are some who feel there is a potential therapeutic value for pain relief, nausea and appetite stimulation. But, the plant is unpurified and it contains a lot of chemicals with unknown health effects, and if smoked it becomes carcinogenic, with can create a whole host of other problems.
Spending time and resources focusing on the active components of marijuana to develop medicines as alternatives is what I think should be done. Marinol is one of these medicines created that can treat loss of appetite as well as nausea and vomiting in people with AIDS and for those cancer patients being treated with chemotherapy.
