Dependence After a Suboxone Detox

Does taking Suboxone during a Suboxone detox possibly set me up for a substitute dependence?

That's a great question, and one that is asked frequently by our patients and their loved ones. When you think about it, it makes sense to ask this question. All opioids can create physical dependence, and Suboxone belongs in that same class of opioids. However, it is called a partial opioid agonists, and a partial opioid agonists is a medication that stimulates activity at opioid receptors that doesn't produce the same maximum effects as a full opioid agonist.

Now, since these partial opioid agonists appear to produce less physical dependence, a ceiling effect with euphoria, and a lower potential for abuse when compared to hydrocodone, oxycodone, and heroin. Although Suboxone has potential for abuse, the withdrawal is much milder. In addition, when the patient is ready to stop going through the Suboxone detox, the medication is slowly removed from their system. However, with nearly most medications, one can overdose, but because Suboxone is a partial opioid agonists it has a limited effect on reducing breathing.

So, if you been considering detoxing from an opioid dependence, you should strongly consider a Suboxone detox right here at Pat Moore Foundation. We have over 25 years of experience at helping people just like you. Our detoxification programs are safe and we offer them right here at our own facility. You don't need to go anywhere else. Suboxone is administered by medical professionals, which are facilitated and operated solely under the jurisdiction of a separate medical corporation.
