Inhalant Abuse: No Right Channel for Huffing
Submitted by recoveryrob on January 19, 2012 - 7:36pmThe other night I was flipping through the channels. I don’t watch a lot of television, but sometimes I just like to see what’s out there. I stopped on a familiar program, one I can’t seem to help watch. It’s about alcohol and drug addiction, and this specific episode was focused on inhalant abuse. Although I work in the field of addiction and recovery, and I know that about 54% of all treatment admissions are related to inhalant abuse, it still throws me a bit.
Taking a Step Back to Learn
Submitted by recoveryrob on December 16, 2011 - 6:51pmA few years back I became the content writer for Pat Moore Foundation. It was shortly after they’d revamped their alcohol and drug treatment website. They wanted a fresh feel, and a new writer on board. They understood the power of internet marketing and great SEO (Search Engine Optimization). This position quickly led to my own blog where I could tell my personal story of my own struggles with addiction, and what it’s like today. It’s been a great outlet, and honestly, it helps keep me sober.
Into the Dark of Night | Part 13 - Treatment One Way or the Other
Submitted by recoveryrob on October 25, 2010 - 7:08pmContinued From Part 12: Sometimes You Just 'Get' It
My initial hopes Joe would get back to me at least by Monday afternoon, were dashed. No contact at all. On top of that, Nick's parents hadn't called me back yet either. Maybe they hadn't contacted me because they were dealing with Nick; maybe admitting him to an alcohol and drug treatment facility.

Drug Abuse Treatment that Fits You Best | Part 2
Submitted by recoveryrob on August 20, 2010 - 6:35pmIn the first part of this three part drug abuse treatment series, we talked about being a 'high bottom' addict. This group generally maintains their existence and can seem to operate and function in their relationships, work, and their health tends to be okay as well. They find help on their own and either get treatment through inpatient or outpatient basis. The second group mentioned in last week's post (8/10/10) is getting help through an intervention.
Alarming Accidental Drug Death Stats
Submitted by recoveryrob on July 13, 2010 - 7:01pmWe were pulling together some statistics for this blog, gleaning through many informative sites, and came across some numbers that surprised us.
Did you know that for forty years, until 2004, the two leading causes of injury death were the motor vehicle traffic deaths and firearms? Beginning in 2004, poisoning deaths - mostly drug overdose - outnumbered firearm deaths and have increased even more so since then.
Sober Sam | The Power of Addiction
Submitted by sobersam on May 11, 2010 - 8:10pmSo there I was fresh out of alcohol and drug treatment, getting loaded in a half furnished apartment, and missing in action from work again. I didn't know what was going on with me, and although I didn't know it at the time, I was repeating the familiar pattern of numbing myself out for as long as I could, just so I didn't have to feel or think.
