Benefits of a Medical Detox
There are many benefits of a medical detox to help with drug addiction. Of course, not all drug addicts need to follow this route, but if you've been using drugs for an extended period of time, or even tried quitting on your own and the withdrawal pains have been to intense and you've gone back to using to help alleviate the physical pain, then most likely you are a perfect candidate for this type of treatment.
A medical detox occurs in a safe and comfortable environment. It's done this way because this is a crucial element for the client's state of mind. If you have access to your home, family, and work-life, the odds are greater that you'll fall back into similar patterns and eventually relapse. Removing you from these 'reminders' increases your chance of creating a foundation on which to build and develop long term sobriety. Now this isn't to say that you'll never have contact with family, friends, home life and even work life. Eventually, you will and then you'll need to make your own choices on what works for you. But, starting out the right way will surely help you, and isn't that why you are getting sober in the first place?
During the process of the medical detox, which can last days to a week, or more, depending on your situation, you'll be able to participate in counseling session with a case manager, and even a group therapy with your peers. It truly depends on a case to case basis though.
