Alcohol Drug Treatment | Adolescent Developmental Issues
A major public health issue in the United States is adolescent alcohol and other drug use and abuse, and finding alcohol drug treatment centers that handle this group and their unique needs are of major concern. An alcohol drug treatment center that is keyed into how an adolescent's development is hindered by abuse can help this youth become sober before entering into adulthood.
Alcohol and other drug (AOD) use have strong links to the beliefs about the experiences of adults. Findings do suggest that adolescents and adults do not show the same psychological, behavioral, and physiological characteristics. Adolescents are less likely to abuse only alcohol -- they tend to abuse marijuana and other drugs with alcohol. Currently, it is likely that adults in treatment are there due to alcohol abuse, which could reflect the generational differences.
Since the mid-80's, there have been significant advances in the assessment and treatment of adolescents suspected of alcohol and other drug abuse problems.
