Methadone detox treatment
Subutex is first administered from the physician’s office during the detox induction phase - when a patient has stopped taking methadone for 12-24 hours and entered the early stages of withdrawal. The medication is then switched to Suboxone for stabilizing the patient when they have fewer withdrawal symptoms and no longer have cravings. The difference with Subutex is that Suboxone contains naloxone, which prevents the threat of overdose or injection by patients.
After 10-30 days of taking Subutex and Suboxone the patient should be able to stop their medication altogether and be free from their craving for methadone.
However, methadone detox is not just about providing the best medicines, but also the support needed to pave the way back into a life free from methadone addiction.
Support, counselling and behavioural therapy
The Pat Moore Foundation has been specialising in drug detox programs for over 20 years, and therefore understands the importance of support and after care treatment in rehabilitation.
While patients recover from their withdrawal symptoms, they are taught behavioural therapy techniques so they’re better equipped to ward off the threat of a future relapse. Patients are kept isolated from the temptations of the outside world in a comfortable, home-like environment. As well as an active schedule, patients are provided with plenty of sources for support - including group therapy, one on one counselling and comradeship from other patients through the buddy-system.
Recovering from a methadone addiction not only affects the patient, but also their families. Parents, brothers, sisters and partners are encouraged to be a part of the recovery process and help their loved ones get back to happy, fulfilling lives free from drugs.
The Pat Moore Foundation is a non-profit alcohol and drug rehabilitation center in Orange County, CA, that provides detox, treatment, information and resources for people dealing with the life-shattering cycle of substance abuse and addiction.
