Alcohol Detox
For the alcoholic, withdrawal from alcohol creates a sense of anxiousness and uneasiness. As for the psychological aspect of the addiction, even those who consume moderate amounts of alcohol may experience withdrawal. This form of addiction refers to a mental desire for alcohol that would create a sense of well being.
Physical addiction occurs primarily for those who consume large amounts of alcohol on a consistent basis. Since the body is accustomed to heavy consumption, they consequently experience withdrawal symptoms once they stop drinking. Those who consume alcohol on a consistent basis may develop a tolerance to the intoxicating levels thus enabling them to consume more than the average drinker. While they continue to function in a normal capacity, their physical condition may appear normal to others and go unnoticed until they start exhibiting ailments indicative of deterioration of the body moreover a compromised liver [liver damage or alcoholic hepatitis].
Alcohol withdrawal symptoms include the following: Elevated blood pressure, Rapid Pulse, Tremors (hands), Diaphoresis (sweaty palms), Insomnia, Nausea or Vomiting, Physical Agitation, Anxiety, Tactile or Auditory Hallucinations, and in extreme cases Grand-Mal seizures. Since the alcohol detox process can be at times complicated and dangerous for the participant, medication intervention is provided to offset withdrawal symptoms that in essence will make the detox process as comfortable as possible. The competent staff of the Pat Moore Foundation will facilitate the detox process thus making sure the patient is safely monitored and is as comfortable as humanly possible.
The detox program is an essential part of any drug & alcohol rehab program. At the Pat Moore Foundation, detoxification occurs in a safe and comfortable environment conducive to the individual’s well being. Many factors are considered in developing a detox protocol that suits the participant’s needs, factors that include: the amounts of alcohol consumption, age, gender, family history, tolerance, etc.
Individuals in our non profit alcohol rehab programs enjoy a comfortable residential setting where they are usually able to participate in counseling and enjoy the company and strength of their peers.
